Elite Coaches

Our extremely popular Rowing Academy will be back in Summer 2018 with top class coaching, inspiring children and offering hands-on coaching advice. 

The Academy


The Rowing Academy aims to introduce novices to rowing, whilst developing practised rowers to a higher level. The team of qualified coaches will instruct junior rowers to use a variety of boats from single sculls to eights. Coaches will focus on mastering and improving techniques, and instruction on best practice for equipment use. This academy offers junior rowers an unrivalled opportunity to experience rowing and develop their skills. 


For novices, the Academy will cover the following:

  • Safety in a boat
  • Manoeuvring a boat
  • Confidence drills
  • Check-point drills and posture
  • Sequencing the rowing recovery
  • Sequencing the rowing drive phase


For advanced rowers, the academy will cover:

  • Sequencing and preparation work
  • Correct muscle activation
  • Advanced placement and blade work
  • Confidence drills
  • Advanced confidence drills
Rowing Single

What to bring

For Day 1 capsize drill, please bring the following clothing to swim in:

  • Swimming costume
  • Shorts
  • T-Shirt

This will be worn during the capsize drill and it will all get wet so please bring two additional changes of clothing so these can be worn in session 2 and 3 of the first day. The swim test on day 1 morning will be 50m swim (2 lengths), treading water for 2 minutes and swimming underwater for 5m.

Should your son / daughter fall in during session 2, they can simply get into dry kit and continue.

Please can children also bring the following every day:

  • Warm clothing and spare set of clothes
  • Towel
  • Food for lunch
  • Drink bottle
  • 3 hearty snack packs for between sessions
  • The swim test on Monday morning would be 50m, treading water for two minutes and swimming underwater for 5m.
