Our October Half-Term Star is still to be confirmed but our previous star was...
Midfield maestro Helen was one of the most experienced members of the GB women’s team. Having started her international career in 1999 at the age of 17, she became the youngest ever woman to represent GB hockey at an Olympics in Sydney the following year, and has gone on to compete at four Olympic Games. As part of the senior leadership group she played a central role in winning the Gold Medal at Rio 2016.
We’ve partnered with Grays Hockey to add another level of quality to the academy both in terms of the programme and the kit that young athletes will use when on the academy with us.
Our Hockey Academies provide a unique opportunity to be coached by some one of the country’s greatest players. We’ve narrowed the age range for 2018, developed our programme and are limiting numbers on each Academy to ensure everyone is coached by Helen who will attend for one of the three days.
Our course teaches players the skills and strategies they need to perform as a confident and competent player. We employ a team of coaches to deliver a programme which mixes skill drills with small side challenges and extensive game play. Young players will develop their skills, pick up new techniques and have the opportunity to apply them all in a fun and inspiring environment.
The Academy will cover:
- improving confident stick work
- powerful hitting on the run
- backhand skills in attack and defence
- distributing the ball with vision
- jab and block tackles
- developing three dimensional skills
- modern penalty corner strategies
- tactics from the International game
- specialist goal scoring session
Our coaching team are happy to help players develop a specific area or skill within which they wish to improve. Please speak to the Lead Coach when signing in on the first day of the Academy.
